Executive Summary

Safeguard recorded 41 incidents across Harare and its branches 1 to 31 July 2026, up 11% on the same period last month. Though the number of violent crimes decreased, violence remains remains a cause for concern with two external guards assaulted in Msasa, Harare and a fatality and injury reported during an armed robbery at a non-client site after robbers set a cabin on fire in Mbalabala. A man was also arrested in Stoneridge, Harare after he discharged a fiream during a dispute at a shop in Stoneridge, Harare. Non-violent crimes, particularly the theft of gate signage continues to be reported in residential suburbs whilst money and vehicle batteries remain vulnerable in industrial/manufacturing sites. In the past month, there was an increase in lone - duo suspect group incidents, possibly a marker of opportunistic crime. Graniteside was the most vulnerable suburb, with 6 incidents, and Friday nights during the night hours were the riskiest window overall (6 incidents). We also logged 24 hazard reports this period covering health, safety, and travel with road traffic accidents as the most commonly reported on the nation's highways.

Advisory & Outlook
General Outlook

Crime is lilely to increase steadily with most "petty" crimes such as attempted thefts and thefts on less valuable items likely to be under-reported. Sites with weak perimeters and poor alarm coverage remain vulnerable during the day and night as intruders any unsecured valuables left on site and in unsecured vehicles, especially over the long weekend. News from South Africa reveal that the vandalism and theft from critical infrastructure is a possibly a regional problem as copper cables continue to be targeted.

RESIDENTIAL ADVISORY

Residential premises currently account for the most incidents with theft and break ins dispersed in various suburbs in Harare. Residents and household staff should remain alert to perimeter security, prompt alarm activation, and reporting suspicious activity at entry points. Residents should keep their panics close and ensure that alarms are always armed as early as possible.

MANUFACTURING / INDUSTRIAL ADVISORY

Manufacturing and industrial premises recorded the second most incidents with Graniteside as the most affected location. Industrial and manufacturing sites should reinforce their perimeter walls, improve security lighting and install Safeguard AI to complement after-hours guarding coverage.

TRAVEL ADVISORY

August includes two public holidays which historically coincide with increased travel and with the current road traffic accident rates, motorists are urged to build in extra travel time and caution, especially outside daylight hours.
